What Can I Do To Groom My Pet At Home?

1)Brush your pet.
All pets need to be brushed. Long hair pets more often than short hair. Brushing prevents matting and shedding. It is also good for their skin, and a great bonding time.

2)Watch those nails.
Most pets need their nails trimmed. The frequency varies, usually once every month or two. Your groomer can recommend a schedule that fits your pet. If your pet doesn't allow you to trim his nails, bring him by when you notice they are getting long. Overgrown nails can be painful and easily broken back into the toe. Nails can also grow so long that they curl towards the foot and become embedded in the skin. Keeping nails trimmed is important.

3)Gentle touches.
Gently massaging your pet at home can help your pet get used to being groomed. For example, touching your pet's feet often  can make him feel more comfortable when you need to groom or examine the feet.

4)Bathing at home.
Bathing at home is perfectly acceptable. We suggest a gentle, tearless shampoo. We also suggest that pets be brushed out thoroughly before bathing.  Any tangle left in a pet's hair before a bath can actually dry into tight mats. It is much easier to prevent mats than to brush them out. It is also much more  pleasant for your pet!
